Russian Aircraft Corporation (RSC “MiG “) has received two contracts from Slovak Air Force for maintenance and support for the operation of the MiG – 29 ” Fulcrum”. The contract provides for repair and completion of radar , as well as gliders of fighters , ” Jane’s Defense Weekly ” reported with reference to the RSC ” MiG” on September 2. The upcoming modernization is scheduled to extend the life of Slovak MiG- 29 to November 2016 , according to the Ministry of Defence of Slovakia , the specific details of improvements are still in elaboration.
“We believe that cooperation with Russia in the field of support to our MiG -29 – is a good idea and the only way to ensure the maintenance and supply of spare parts by the country – which is not a member of NATO and the European Union , as well as guarantee the safety of air space Slovakia – it was told to ” Jaynes ” in Slovak Ministry of Defence . – However, this would require a very open and transparent contact with the contractor and the close cooperation and strict control over the execution of contacts. ”
The state of the Slovak MiG -29 now is outrageous because , according to the Minister of Defence of Slovakia Martin Glvach, the earlier contracts for technical support have not been implemented, which resulted in the complete dismantling of aircraft due to lack of spare parts.
According Glvach , this shortcoming has left Slovakia with no spare engines, landing gear and other critical components necessary to service the fighter fleet and ensure its combat capability.
In an interview with ” Jaynes ‘ , defense minister said that” during the period 2006-2011 . five aircraft were dismantled , adding that it was ” because of the negligence and inaction of responsible personnel of the Ministry of Defense . “
