June 5 – Russian pilots displayed their mastery during the Aviadarts-2016 flight skills competition in Crimea featuring fighter jets, bombers, helicopters and other aircraft. The annual event has been held in Russia since 2013. One of the most spectacular parts of the show is when the top gun pilots fired missiles.

Large-scale military pilot exercises got underway in the Russian peninsula of Crimea under Russian Aerospace Forces Commander Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev’s command on Saturday.

BELBEK AIRFIELD  – The Aviadarts show is an annual competition to test flight skills and precision shooting organized by the Russian Defense Ministry. The contest, which features fighter jets, bombers and other aircraft, was first held in Russia in 2013.

“Today we are opening the third stage of Avidarts. It is not an accident that the opening takes place on Russian soil in Crimea. It was here where Russian aviation takes roots,” Bondarev said at the opening ceremony.

He noted that the winners of the contest would represent the Russian Aerospace Forces at the international leg of Aviadarts in late July-early August in the western city of Ryazan.Bondarev voiced appreciation toward the Crimean leadership and construction workers who prepared the Chauda range where the main phases of the aerial competition should be held.

Military pilots will test their accuracy, navigation, aerobatics and endurance skills at three Crimean air fields on May 28-June 5.
