Exercise leaders from both sides signed the final protocol of the conference.

Russian-Indian exercise have been held annually since 2003.

This year, Indra-2016 Russian-Indian counter-terrorist exercise will be held at the Sergeyevsky range (Primorsky Krai) on August 22-September1.

The final stage of Russian-Indian talks on the Indra 2016 joint war games began Tuesday in Russia’s Far Eastern coast, a senior military spokesman of the Eastern Military District said.

VLADIVOSTOK  The final leg of talks between Russia and India on the Indra 2016 joint war games began Tuesday in Russia’s Far Eastern coast, a senior military spokesman of the Eastern Military District said.

Russian and Indian armed forces are expected to participate in three major exercises this year – the Indra Neva 2016 naval training, AviaIndra 2016 air and anti-aircraft drills, and Indra 2016 combined-arms exercise.

“At this state of consultations, military representatives in charge of conducting the exercises on both sides will discuss proceedings of joint…maneuvers and sign the final protocol at the conference,” Roman Martov said.

The Indra exercises were first held in 2003. They aim at increasing interoperability between the Russian and Indian forces. The Russian Defense Ministry estimates a total of 500 service members will take part in the drills.

Russia and India have agreed on the number and type of  The Russian Pacific Fleet and the Indian Armed Forces have agreed on the number and type of warships that will be involved in the joint Russian-Indian naval exercises, Indra, in December 2016, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry’s Eastern Military District said Wednesday.

“The Pacific Fleet and the Indian Armed Forces have agreed that the drills will involve a Project 1155 anti-submarine destroyer, a Project 956 fleet destroyer, an anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27, a tanker and a fleet tug from the Russian side. The Indian side will provide for the drills a Kashin-class destroyer, a corvette, a tanker and a shipboard helicopter,” Alexander Gordeev told reporters.

He noted that the final composition of forces and means involved in the drills would be specified during the final planning conference, which is scheduled for October.

The Indra exercises, first held in 2003, are tasked with boosting cooperation and interoperability between the Russian and Indian navies. In 2016, some 500 servicement are expected to be engaged in the drills, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

June 15 – The second stage of consultations on planning of Indra-2016 joint Russian-Indian military exercise was finished in New Delhi, the capital of the Republic of India.
At the second planning conference, representatives of the Eastern MD and the Armed Forces of India came to an agreement that motorized rifle, tank units, multiple launch rocket system battery, flamethrower squad and medical platoon from the Russian side will be involved into the exercise.
A control unit and 2 tactic company groups from the Indian side will take part in the exercise.
Moreover, Ka-52, Mi-8 AMTSh attack helicopters, Su-25SM attack aircraft will be involved into the exercise.

Officials of Russia’s Eastern Military District and the Indian Armed Forces are expected to coordinate the scenario and schedule of the Indra’2016 war games during consultations in Vladivostok in February, the press service of the Eastern Military District said. “The first round of consultations on planning the joint Russian-Indian military exercise Indra’2016 will be held in the Eastern Military District in February,” the report said. “Representatives of the district and the Indian Air Armed Forces will coordinate the scenario, the schedule and area of the event.” “Also, they will consider the details of border control and customs formalities for the Indian participants in the exercise,” it said. Indra’s2016 will be held at a testing range of the Eastern Military District. Dmitry Smirnov, the chief of the Eastern Military District’s department for international military cooperation said in December the naval part of the war games will be held in the Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan while the maneuvers of the ground forces would take place on the Sergeyevsky range in the Primorsky territory.
