Serbia intends to buy six Russian MiG-29 fighter jets

BELGRADE, December 19. /TASS/. Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said he plans to discuss possible purchase or six Russian MiG-29 fighter jets when he will pay a visit to Moscow on December 21, Tanjug reported on Monday.

“We are in talks to purchase six planes,” the agency quoted him as saying.

“So, we will have ten MiG-29 planes and it will mean an enhanced level of security for the citizens.”

Along with the purchase of more planes, it is planned to negotiate repair and modernization of Serbia’s MiG-29 jets.

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday he plans to discuss purchase of Russian Buk anti-aircraft missile systems when he will be paying a visit to Russia.

“We will discuss the issue of anti-aircraft missile systems, probably Buk-M1 or Buk-M2, which will be cheaper for us as we will pay for them,” Beta news agency quoted him as saying. “The price is going to be very good and we are thankful to the Russians for that.”

Earlier in the day, Vucic announced plans to buy six Russian MiG-29 fighter jets.

After talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Belgrade on December 12, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told a news conference that Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Moscow due on December 21 will focus on issues of arms supplies to Serbia. He did not disclose details of a possible deal, saying it is was “confidential information.”


Aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces delivered 40 tons of humanitarian cargos from Serbia to the Hmeymim airbase


In total, Il-76 transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces has delivered more than 40 tons of canned food products, flour, vegetable oil, clothes and medicaments from Serbia to the Hmeymim airbase.

In the nearest future, military servicemen of the Russian Centre for reconciliation of opposing sides will deliver the humanitarian cargos to the most damaged inhabited areas of Syria.

Earlier, two transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces have delivered about 40 tons of vegetables, bakery and sugar from the Republic of Armenia to the Syrian population.

Flights were carried out at nighttime and in conditions of rain and strong wind. In total, pilots performed more than 10 flights.

The exercise leadership controlled each element and episode of the flight operations.

MiG-29 and Mi-8 crews are participating in the Bars-2016 joint flight tactic exercise.

The exercise is held in accordance to the plan of the international military cooperation. Up to 10 aircraft of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence are operated in course of the exercise.

Moscow Considers Delivery of Russian MiG-29s to Serbia



Russia may be planning to deliver MiG-29 fighter jets to Serbia, according to a source in the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia is considering possibly delivering air defense systems and MiG-29 fighter jets to Serbia, a source in the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) said Wednesday.

“We are working on the issue of deliveries of air defense systems and MiG-29s to Serbia. This country is our strategic partner in Europe, in many spheres, including military-technical cooperation,” the source told RIA Novosti.

Last month, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Serbia was hoping to buy Russian-made Tor, Pantsir, and Buk air defense systems as well as MiG-29s.The Serbian Defense Ministry has reportedly submitted a detailed list of the weapons and spare parts it would like to purchase to the FSMTC.
