Moscow and New Delhi positively asses work of the Indo-Russian supersonic BrahMos cruise missile and a fifth-generation fighter plane, the Russian Defense Ministry press service said Monday.

The BrahMos short-range supersonic missile, developed by Russia and India, has been in use by the Indian Navy since 2005. The missile has a range of 180 miles and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 660 pounds.

“The sides positively assessed the progress of work on the design of a promising multifunctional fighter aircraft and a multi-purpose cargo aircraft, a licensed production of Su-30MKI fighters and T-90S tanks, the implementation of the program for the creation and production of BrahMos missiles…,” the press service said after the meeting of a Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation.

The sides also exchanged views on the current state and future prospects of Russian-Indian military cooperation.

Bad News for Bad Guys: Russia Decides to Export Iskander Missile Complexes

Exercises for installing Iskander missile system

Short-range nuclear-capable Iskander missile complexes will be offered for export.

Russia’s largest arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, plans in the future to offer the country’s Iskander missile system (NATO reporting name SS-26 Stone) on the foreign market, Rosoboronexport General Director Anatoly Isaikin said Tuesday.“The Iskander [missile system] will be offered for export in the future,” Isaikin told journalists without specifying the possible date for future export deliveries.

Iskander-M is a Russian mobile short-range ballistic missile system, which entered into service in 2006. Iskander missiles are nuclear-capable and can engage a wide range of targets, from enemy military units to underground command centers.

The Iskander is characterized by its high mobility and maneuverability, as it takes just 20 minutes to put the system in operational readiness.

Tests of the latest missile for Russia’s Iskander tactical missile system are set to be completed by the end of 2015, according to the the bureau which designed the system

Russia, US move along same track to build up smart weapons potentials

MOSCOW, October 22. /TASS/. The first tests of the United States’ missile defense system in Europe were the Pentagon’s response to the successful use of Russia’s sea-launched cruise missiles from the land-locked Caspian Sea on October 7 against military targets of the Islamic State in Syria, polled experts have told TASS.

On Tuesday, the United States for the first time held tests under the European missile defense program. In a joint exercise with NATO allies it destroyed a dummy ballistic missile over the northern Atlantic. The commander of the US naval forces in Europe and North Africa, Admiral Mark Furguson, said the exercise demonstrated the United States’ readiness to protect Europe with ships armed with the Aegis missile defense system.

The deputy director of the Institute of US and Canada Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences, Pavel Zolotaryov, said the US test of its “anti-missile umbrella” in Europe was the Pentagon’s response to the launch of Russian cruise missiles against Islamic State positions in Syria.”

Zolotaryov does not believe that the missiles launched in the process of testing the US missile defense in Europe pose any threat to Russia’s nuclear potential, though. “The range of the guided interceptor missile Standard-3 (SM-3) Bloc 1A does not enable it to hit strategic targets inside Russian territory,” Zolotaryov, a former senior officer at the Strategic Missile Force Staff, told TASS.

“The United States and its NATO allies are building up its cutting-edge smart weapons potential. The great discrepancy between their potential and Russia’s own capabilities cannot but cause alarm. Potentials’ disparity is always fraught with a risk to security. Russia is on the right track as it builds up both smart weapons and counter means. In fact, the United States and Russia are moving along parallel lines, Zolotaryov said.

“That the US has been launching missiles within the framework of NATO exercises does not look like something out of the ordinary to me. Russia, too, has been practicing attacks against ballistic missile targets with its new generation S-400 air defense system. That’s a normal competition procedure,” the president of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, Konstantin Sivkov, told TASS.

“The United States’ missile defense tests in Europe were a routine procedure to practice interaction between the naval component and the ground-based systems. We, Russian specialists, have seen nothing new in the just-held experiment. The United States was making such tests back six years ago,” Sivkov said.

“The armed forces of NATO and Russia have the same task of keeping abreast of the world situation. Each country has the right to test its own weapons. And each country is entitled to the right to interpret another country’s actions as a challenge or a threat. This is also quite normal in the context of the current strained situation in the world,” the deputy director of the Institute of Military-Political Studies, Aleksandr Khramchikhin, told TASS.

Sweden Getting Ready to Fire Missiles at Russian Troops From Gotland Island

Sweden keeps flexing its military muscle due to imaginary Russian aggression, Regnum news agency reported.

The island of Gotland could be used as a key place to shoot from at invading Russian troops, if Russia were ever to decide to take over the Baltics, Governor of Gotland Cecilia Schelin-Seidegard said, according to Regnum.

According to the Governor, for the longest time Gotland was the weakest link in Swedish defense, but now it will change as the Swedish government has decided to strengthen the island’s defense capabilities.

Schelin-Seidegard seriously believes that Russia’s looking to invade the Baltics and then threaten Sweden. She’s eager to fight the Russians and believes her island could play a strategically important role.

“From Gotland we could, for example, fire missiles [at Russians] and cover our ships sailing towards St. Petersburg,” Schelin-Seidegard said.

Schelin-Seidegard clearly got up on the wrong side of her bed. Russia has never had an interest in “invading Baltic nations or Scandinavia,” as everyone out there seems to believe. Peter Mattsson, a researcher at the Swedish National Defense College, said the United States deliberately spreads rumors about Russian aggression trying to convince Sweden and other Baltic nations that they are vulnerable without US troops in the region.US military analysts cite Russian military drills and maneuvers to scare Europeans that the moves are designed to rehearse the impending “invasion” of the Scandinavian Islands and other territories in the Baltic region.

The fact of the matter is that Russia is doing what every nation on Earth is doing — training its own troops in its own territory. One could make similar unfounded speculations every time the United States conducts military drills. Is the recent Jade Helm 15 military drill a rehearsal to take over Mexico then?

Berlin blocks military agreement between France and Saudi Arabia

Berlin blocks military agreement between France and Saudi Arabia

19.08.2013 Arms-expo
Berlin continues to block the military agreement between France and Saudi Arabia for the supply of armored vehicles and air defense systems. Earlier, Saudi Arabia ordered:

264 armored vehicles Nexter Aravis
15 ambulances Lohr
68 mobile air defense systems Lohr MPCV with anti-aircraft missiles Mistral SRAD

But German authorities stopped the implementation of the contract by means of the ban sale of chassis c Unimog 5000, which is used in these complexes. To sell abroad Unimog 5000 chassis for use in the army and security forces, it needs official permission of Berlin, the publication ArmyRecognition said. The contract with Lohr would be approved September 15, 2012, with Nexter – October 15, 2012.

As a result, both companies now can not begin to build these cars and came to a rather complex situation with Saudi clients. Permission was not granted by the German government “on humanitarian grounds” . Berlin refused to assist the sale of armored vehicles, citing the fact that Riyadh could use them to suppress popular uprisings, according to “Les Echos”.

The specialists of the French company Lohr, are now actively searching for a replacement chassis or another way out of this situation. Negotiations are under way with other potential suppliers.

The complex MPCV (Multi-Purpose Combat Vehicle) is a mobile launcher and machine control on the chassis of Mercedes Unimog 5000 with the installation of missiles Mistral. The fact of the contract with the company Lohr for sale of air defense systems surprised many experts.

As the mobile base to mount guidance systems and rocket Mistral, were selected the previously unknown armored vehicle SOFRAME
