Russia, UN to Try to Find Humanitarian Solution for Aleppo During 2-Day Talks

Smoke over Ramuse district of southern Aleppo

The Russian delegation confirmed to the United Nations it will try to find mutually acceptable humanitarian solution for Syria’s contested city of Aleppo during the two-day talks, Senior Adviser to UN Special Envoy for Syria Jan Egeland said Thursday.

GENEVA         Syria’s largest city has been mired in intense fighting, and the Syrian army and local militia forces have encircled large groups of militants in eastern districts of Aleppo.

“Today in the meeting, the Russian delegation confirmed the willingness to sit down with us today and tomorrow to try to agree on a workable humanitarian pause for us to move the Aleppo way to help people of east as well as in the west,” Egeland told reporters.
