Russia to Supply President-S Aircraft Defense Systems to Egypt in Weeks

The deliveries of Russia’s advanced President-S onboard defense systems (ODS) to Egypt will begin in “coming days,” a senior Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern (KRET) executive said Friday.

ST. PETERSBURG.  The ODS is designed to protect planes and helicopters from being hit by missiles, air defense and anti-aircraft artillery. The defense system is currently installed on Ka-52, Mi-28 and Mi-26 helicopters.”The deliveries will begin in the near future, it is literally a matter of weeks,” the company’s first deputy director Igor Nasenkov told reporters.

The contract for the supply of the systems to Egypt was signed in 2015.

The ODS allows to detect and track incoming rockets, as well as repel them by directing coded laser rays at their multispectral optical seekers or creating radio jamming.

Cairo and Moscow agreed to increase military, trade, security and economic cooperation following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Egypt in February 2015.
