MOSCOW, May 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and China may develop a new modified version of the Mi-26 Halo heavy-lift helicopter, Russian Helicopters CEO Alexander Mikheev told journalists at the HeliRussia exhibition in Moscow.
“Mi-26 is a platform for talks with the Chinese side, this year we will define its design,” Mikheev said, adding the new version will be of a “completely different weight.”
The Mi-26 Halo, a heavy transport helicopter with civilian and military applications, is the largest and most powerful helicopter ever to have gone into production.
During a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s to Shanghai this week, Russia and China signed over 40 important documents on trade, energy and cultural exchange, including a 30-year deal to supply gas to China.
On Tuesday, the leaders of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China signed an agreement to cooperate on the development of a new wide-body long-range passenger airliner.
