The advanced antihelicopter mine, the latest development of military engineers, will be adopted by the Russian Army in the near future. This information was presented by Head of the Russian Air Force’s Engineer Service Colonel Alexey Khazov.
“The new antihelicopter mine has been tested in late 2013 and will soon be adopted by the Russian Armed Forces. It is designed for destroying helicopters and other aircraft at an altitude of up to 200 m, forming a projectile on the basis of the hollow-charge principle,” Mr. Khazov pointed out.
It should be noted that the antihelicopter mine is a brand-new development, which has no analogues in the world. The weight and dimensions of the new ammunition have not been disclosed. The new mine will be installed by remote mining means, including helicopters.
“The mine will be located on the ground in standby and will be automatically switched into a firing position after detecting an object. If an object enters an effective area, the mine will fire,” Mr. Khazov explained.
